Government Approves Historic 3 College Merger

The merger of Central College, Metropolitan College and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies was today given approval to proceed by the Scottish Government. On September 1, the colleges will merge to become the City of Glasgow College, the first-ever merger of three colleges.

Paul Little, Principal Designate of City of Glasgow College, said; "We are delighted by the announcement that the Scottish Government has today approved the unique three way merger of Glasgow Metropolitan College, Central College, and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies to create the City of Glasgow College. This is great news for students, for staff, for the city of Glasgow and for Scotland.

Minister For Skills And Lifelong Learning Opens Marine Skills Centre

Keith Brown, Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning,  officially opened the new 5.6 million Marine Skills Centre, the first building to be completed for the new City of Glasgow College, on Monday 21 June.

The Minister was greeted by the Principal Designate and some of the uniformed cadets who will be using the Marine Skills Centre to gain their maritime qualifications. Keith Brown, Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning, commented: "I was delighted to be able to celebrate the opening of this terrific, state-of-the-art asset for Glasgow and indeed for Scotland.

New Campus Glasgow Maintains Momentum

New Campus Glasgow, the visionary project to deliver an inspiring, flexible and sustainable estate for the new City of Glasgow College, has submitted its Proposal of Application Notice to Glasgow City Council and adjacent Community Councils.

The team behind New Campus Glasgow has now launched its formal pre-application public consultation programme which will give members of the public another opportunity to view exciting proposals for the City of Glasgow College’s new estate, as well as give their opinions on the proposals. The project team has already developed strong and enthusiastic relationships with community groups and stakeholders by conducting an extensive engagement prior to this pre-planning stage.
