1 Sep 2008New Campus Glasgow Ltd has appointed the first tranche of specialist advisers to help develop the supercampus project in Glasgow's city centre. New Campus Glasgow is the ambitious multi-million pound plan hatched by Glasgow's 4 specialist city centre colleges - Central College, Glasgow Metropolitan College, Glasgow College of Nautical Studies and Stow College - to develop a world class shared campus on 2 sites in the heart of the Glasgow -city centre Cathedral Street and Clyde-side Thistle Street. The vision is to create a 21st century, technology rich, people friendly campus for 50,000 students and 2,000 staff by 2016. The successful companies are:
- Turner and Townsend - Project Management Services
- Gardiner and Theobald - Cost Consultancy Services
- Halcrow - Construction, Design and Management
financial advisers
- Price Waterhouse Coopers
legal advisers
- Pinsent Masons
The appointments conclude the OJEU process that started in June 2008. Five bidders were shortlisted in each area and the final decisions reflected detailed evaluation of each bidder's written submissions and interview.
The new technical team, led by Turner and Townsend, will begin familiarisation in September then start the work to take forward the Design Team appointment. This will contribute to the refinement of the procurement strategy.
The existing technical team - led by Gardiner & Theobald (Project Manager and Cost Consultant) and BDP (Architect) - will complete their work supporting the development of the Masterplan and Full Business Case in December.
"This is one of the biggest construction projects in the sector in Europe, and we fully intend to create a world class facility that will make learning a joy," said Programme Sponsor, Donald Leitch, who represents the 4 colleges within New Campus Glasgow.
"We are confident that we have the right team, the right experience and the right knowledge to bring this project in on time, to brief and within budget," said New Campus Programme Director, Iain Marley, who leads the small core project team who will manage the project and work with the specialist advisors just appointed.
The team is currently working up the full business case and this will be presented to the Scottish Funding Council in February 2009.
