property team appointed to lead glasgow supercampus project

A property development team is now in place to deliver one of Europe's most ambitions education projects, New Campus Glasgow.
The New Campus Glasgow project will deliver a new world class learning facility for the 50,000 students and 2,000 staff of Glasgow's four specialist city centre colleges: Central College, Metropolitan College, Stow College and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies.
The project will co-locate the four existing colleges on a shared campus over two sites - City Campus at Cathedral Street, home of Central and Metropolitan Colleges and Riverside Campus at Thistle Street, site of the Nautical College.
The team will be headed up by Iain Marley former Programme Director at the BBC and architect of the corporations move into its new HQ at Pacific Quay.
Iain will lead the team of advisors and in-house staff and has overall responsibility for planning, design, procurement, financing, construction, fit and facilities management on the new campus.
Donald Leitch, Programme Sponsor, who represents the four colleges, said: "Iain has a wealth of project management experience across a range of sectors including, consulting and operational roles with Price Waterhouse and the BBC. He has significant experience in delivering real strategic benefits from all the projects he has been involved in. from leading complex contract negotiations to implementing new technology and transition management. I'm delighted to have someone of his experience on board to progress this project through the critical development phase."

The project timeline for New Campus Glasgow is currently being developed with a detailed business case scheduled to be unveiled before the year end and submitted to the Scottish Funding Council in March 09.
