supercampus team welcomes merger

1 Mar 2009

The Board of New Campus Glasgow, the team set up to deliver a city centre supercampus for the college sector, has welcomed the merger of their client group, Glasgow's city centre colleges, Central, Metropolitan and Nautical.

"This is an exciting advance for New Campus Glasgow, as we pull plans together for the estates project that will deliver the supercampus," said Chair, Vic Emery. "We are very optimistic that this discussion will bring further focus and energy to the realistion of our vision and help us to deliver the supercampus which Glasgow deserves on time and on budget. This bodes well for the success of the project and will to lead to a great outcome for learners, staff and the college sector as a whole."

The New Campus Glasgow project was originally devised around a co-location for Glasgow's four city centre colleges: Central, Metropolitan, Nautical and Stow.

Following the withdrawal of Stow College in March 2009 the project is being taken forward by Central, Metropolitan and Nautical colleges, who continue to work towards their vision for a single college in the centre of Glasgow. This work is supported by the Scottish Funding Council and delivered through New Campus Glasgow.

As part of this work the three-college client group will develop a new brief for the architect-led design team. The design team appointment originally scheduled for June 2009 will now be re-scheduled to allow this to take place.
