supremos sought for new glasgow supercampus

2 Oct 2008

New Campus Glasgow Ltd - the company set up to deliver one of Europe's most ambitious development projects - is on the look out for a Chair and two Directors to further strengthen its Board.

New Campus Glasgow Ltd is charged with developing a world class learning facility for the 50,000 students and 2,000 staff of Glasgow's four specialist city centre colleges: Central College, Metropolitan College, Stow College and Glasgow College of Nautical Studies. The project will co-locate the four colleges on a shared campus over 2 sites - City Campus at Cathedral Street (home of Central and Metropolitan Colleges) and Riverside Campus at Thistle Street (home of Nautical College).

New Campus Glasgow reports to a Board made up of the Chairs and Principals of the four colleges.

"This is a huge, complex project and one that is a key driver for Scotland's economy in the coming decades," said Donald Leitch, Programme Sponsor for New Campus Glasgow. "We want to do the right thing and do it right, and the Board believes it's worth investing in additional heavyweight players at this crucial stage in its development. We are looking for individuals who can help create the right conditions for success… people who are business savvy, politically astute, commanding, dynamic, with excellent interpersonal skills and strong links in the business community."

New Campus Glasgow is working with search consultants Odgers Ray & Berndtson to find the best people for these key roles. The role of Chair attracts a payment of £30,000 a year for 6 days a month and for Directors, £10,000 for 3 days a month.

The Chair will be expected to have experience of similar large-scale projects and change management. S/he will be expected to provide leadership and direction in this high profile, demanding role and ensure that this highly ambitious project delivers its full potential.

The Directors will be expected to have relevant senior management/strategic experience, in particular dealing with major multiple contractor projects, and working with multi-million financial investment.

Appointments will be for a period of three years initially. Closing date for applications is 14 November.
