going green

Sustainability. It’s a fashionable term right now. But New Campus Glasgow doesn’t see it as the ‘in’ thing. To us, it’s a long-term commitment to creating a development that minimises its environmental impact now and for its lifetime of use.

Our project’s green credentials will be measured through the BREEAM framework – the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. BREEAM is the leading environmental assessment method for buildings and is the industry standard measure used to describe a building’s environmental performance.

New Campus Glasgow is targeted with achieving an ‘excellent’ rating across the whole of the new build element of the project. Refurbished elements are targeted with achieving a ‘very good’ rating. We also have an aspiration to achieve ‘outstanding’ – the highest rating available – on at least one aspect of the campus.

To achieve this, sustainability has been considered from the very beginning of the project. Our buildings are being designed to be naturally lit and ventilated as much as possible. We will be implementing a green travel plan to increase the use of public transport and we’re also looking at innovative energy supply solutions. Check out the rest of this section for further details.

As well as this, we’re proud to be part of “Sustainable Glasgow”:, an exciting, city-wide programme aimed at making Glasgow one of Europe’s most sustainable cities by 2020.

We have big ambitions, but we have the support behind us to back it up. And together, we’ll paint the town green!
